How to record your snoring for your doctor

Record 3 to 7 normal nights on your phone, then show your doctor how often and how loudly you snored.

Record 3 to 7 normal nights

  1. Don't change anything yet. These nights are your baseline.
  2. Same phone, same spot: bedside table, within 1 metre of your head, plugged in.
  3. Note anything unusual, like alcohol, a late meal or a blocked nose.
  4. Listen to your loudest clips, so you know what your doctor will hear.

What to show your doctor

  • How much of each night you snored
  • How much of it was loud
  • 2 or 3 clips of your loudest snores
  • What made it better or worse
A night report: the snoring graph, Snore Score 38, 2 hours 15 minutes of snoring and 126 snores

Trying a treatment? Record before you start

Record a week before a mouthguard, nasal strips or CPAP, then keep recording. Without a "before", you can't tell if it helped.

Trends: Snore Score over a week, with the nights after a change marked and the score going down

See a doctor sooner if

  • You gasp or choke in your sleep
  • Someone has seen you stop breathing
  • You're very tired during the day

A phone recording can't diagnose sleep apnea. Only a sleep study can.
